Who, arriva nei negozi il DVD 'Live in Texas '75'

24 ago 2012 - Una delle esibizioni storiche degli Who, fino ad oggi disponibile solo come bootleg, verrà pubblicata sotto forma di DVD il prossimo 9 ottobre, data che avrebbe visto compiere lo scomparso bassista della leggendaria rockband britannica, John Entwistle, sessantotto anni. Il documento, testimonianza del concerto che Pete Townshend e compagni tennero al Summit di Houston il 20 novembre del 1975 in supporto alla pubblicazione della loro settima fatica in studio, "The Who by numbers", pubblicata poco più di un mese prima, include le esecuzioni dei brani "Squeeze box", "However much I booze" e "Dreaming from the waist", oltre che ai brani di repertorio "Baba O’Reily", "Join together" e "Won’t get fooled again".

Rimasterizzato dal collaboratore di vecchia data degli Who, Jon Astley, ex fratellastro di Townshend che nel 1987 conobbe un fugace successo come cantautore grazie a "Jane’s getting serious", il concerto si inserì nell'ultimo tour realizzato dal gruppo con la propria formazione originale: il batterista Keith Moon, infatti, morì nel 1978 per overdose subito dopo la pubblicazione di "Who are you?".

13 set 2012 - Un "nuovo" DVD degli Who sarà pubblicato il prossimo 8 ottobre in Europa e il 9 in Nordamerica. Il supporto audiovideo cattura la band in uno dei suoi periodi migliori, la metà degli anni Settanta. Il DVD/Blu-ray è intitolato "The Who live in Texas ’75" e documenta il concerto tenuto dalla band britannica a Houston, Texas, il 20 novembre 1975 per il tour "Who by numbers". Lo show, che finora era stato reperibile solo come bootleg dalla scarsa qualità, dura 117 minuti. I brani:

Who: in un cofanetto tutti gli album in vinile. La tracklist

25 ott 2012 - "Whovember", lo chiamano sul sito della Universal, e in effetti il mese alle porte vedrà giungere sul mercato una serie di pubblicazioni di notevole interesse per i fan degli Who: dopo il DVD "Live in Texas" spedito sugli scaffali lo scorso 9 ottobre, la band capitanata da Roger Daltrey e Pete Towshend verrà omaggiata con altre quattro importanti uscite, tutte programmate per il prossimo 19 novembre. La prima, il doppio Cd "Live at Hull", include 32 brani registrati dal vivo nel 1970 già contenuti nell'edizione "super deluxe" dello storico "Live at Leeds", mentre la seconda sarà un dodici pollici in vinile ad edizione limitata di 1000 copie del live set - durante il quale furono eseguiti i brani "Baba O'Riley", "See me, feel me" e "My generation" - che il gruppo tenne in occasione della cerimonia di chiusura delle Olimpiadi di Londra, disponibile in pre-ordine a questo indirizzo. La terza ri-pubblicazione sarà uno dei capitoli fondamentali nella storia della band, "My generation" del 1965 (del quale, tuttavia, uscì una deluxe edition già nel 2002). Il vero pezzo forte, però, è rappresentato dalla quarta uscita, ovvero un cofanetto che racchiude in quattordici dischi in vinile tutta la produzione ufficiale degli Who, da "My generation" del 1965 a "Endless wire" del 2006.

Il box set è già disponibile in pre-ordine al prezzo di 174 sterline, al cambio attuale poco meno di 217 euro.

Who, la tracklist della riedizione super-deluxe di 'Tommy'

Sono arrivati prima del previsto i dettagli circa la riedizione di "Tommy", opera rock e uno degli episodi più celebrati della degli Who, che il prossimo 11 novembre tornerà sugli scaffali dei negozi sotto forma di cofanetto super-deluxe (come già successe, del resto, per "Quadrophenia"): il box set conterrà - oltre che alla versione originale del disco in versione rimasterizzata - anche un CD con 25 tra provini, outtakes, rarità e versioni alternative, oltre che a un bootleg registrato il 15 ottobre del '69 a Ottawa, in Canada. A corredare il tutto ci sarà un blue-ray con la versione dell'album mixata in surround 5.1 e un booklet di ottanta pagine, nel quale sarà inserita anche la riproduzione della locandina del concerto tenuto al Coliseum di Londra in supporto alla pubblicazione. Who, addio alle scene dopo il tour per il cinquantenario nel 2015

Who, ultima chiamata: stando a quanto riferito oggi dal britannico Evening Standard, la band simbolo del rock inglese ormai rappresentata dai soli Pete Townshend e Roger Daltrey sarebbe pronta per il commiato definitivo. A rivelarlo è stato lo stesso Townshend dalle colonne della testata free press inglese: "Per il cinquantesimo anniversario faremo un tour mondiale", ha spiegato il chitarrista, "Ci sono un sacco di posti dove non abbiamo ancora suonato. Ci piacerebbe andare nell'Europa dell'est e in altri posti dove non hanno ancora sentito dal vivo i nostri vecchi successi".

Sia Townshend che Daltrey sono alle prese con problemi di salute che più volte hanno rappresentato una seria minaccia per la loro attività professionale: il primo è da anni affetto da una grave forma di acufene, mentre il secondo è costretto a sottoporsi a controlli periodici dopo essere stato operato per la rimozione di una massa tumorale alla gola nel 2010.

Solo la scorsa estate il gruppo ha intrapreso un tour - interamente dedicato a "Quadrophenia" - in Irlanda e Regno Unito, dopo una lunga serie di concerti in nordamerica. Il prossimo 11 novembre verrà spedita sugli scaffali dei negozi, sotto forma di box set arricchito da bonus track e inediti, la riedizione di "Tommy", opera rock e uno degli episodi più celebrati della della band.

Cinquant'anni di Who, si comincia con una mostra a Londra

Se il 2012 ha fatto segnare i cinquant'anni dei Rolling Stones, il 2014 sarà l'anno del mezzo secolo degli Who. Tra le prime iniziative ad essere comunicate è la mostra, le cui date sono state confermate oggi dopo le prime voci che si erano diffuse ieri, che renderà omaggio alla formazione che ormai si può ben definire "storica". Intitolata semplicemente "Fifty years of The Who", l'esposizione è composta da scatti del fotografo Colin Jones. La mostra, organizzata da Proud Galleries di Londra, mostra la band in varie situazioni e non solo sul palco. L'amicizia che si sviluppò tra Jones e il gruppo permise infatti al fotografo di immortalare i singoli componenti anche in momenti molto privati; uno scatto, ad esempio, mostra il compianto John Entwistle mentre si esercita allo strumento a casa mentre sua madre gli rammenda le calze.

Roger Daltrey ha confessato che il collega Pete Townshend è al lavoro sul nuovo album dei Who, ma le informazioni sono ancora vaghe.

«Pete avrà un centinaio di canzoni – ha confessato il cantante – quindi l’unica domanda è se ci lavoreremo, ma lui vuole fare un nuovo album e io sono sempre pronto e impaziente di partire. Vedremo. Non so mai cosa farò come prossima cosa, dipende da cosa mi troverò domani nella cassetta delle lettere, ma non vedo perché non dovremmo. La mia voce è ancora in buono stato. L’udito non sta così bene, ma la voce è ok».

L’album sarebbe il dodicesimo dei Who, il primo dopo Endless Wire del 2006. L’occasione di parlare del disco è stata quando i reporter hanno chiesto al cantante se avrebbe suonato con il suo collega Townshend, come già successo in passato, al Teenage Cancer Trust. Dopo aver escluso la possibilità, proprio per gli impegni di Pete, Roger ha parlato dei programmi per il 50esimo anniversario dei The Who. «Non saprei, magari quest’album – ha risposto Daltrey – Non ci ho pensato, ad essere onesto. Non pensavamo che saremmo durati una settimana, figurati 50 anni. Noi siamo gli Who, siamo soliti scioglierci dopo ogni concerto».
