CROSSFIRE HURRICANE – A NEW FILM FROM THE ROLLING STONES


The Rolling Stones, the rock ‘n’ roll icons who have defined creativity, daring and durability, are to be chronicled in a kaleidoscopic new film that documents the key periods of their career and their incredible adventures.

Crossfire Hurricane, directed by Brett Morgen, provides a remarkable new perspective on the Stones’ unparalleled journey from blues-obsessed teenagers in the early 60’s to rock royalty. It’s all here in panoramic candour, from the Marquee Club to Hyde Park, from Altamont to Exile, from club gigs to stadium extravaganzas.

The film in the UK will receive a theatrical release and can be seen by Stones fans in selected cinemas across the country in October. It will also be premiered on HBO in the USA and broadcast on BBC Two later in the year.

With never-before-seen footage and fresh insights from the band themselves, the film will delight, shock and amaze longtime devotees, as well as another generation of fans, with its uniquely immersive style and tone. Crossfire Hurricane places the viewer right on the frontline of the band’s most legendary escapades.

Taking its title from a lyric in “Jumping Jack Flash”, Crossfire Hurricane gives the audience an intimate insight, for the first time, into exactly what it’s like to be part of the Rolling Stones, as they overcame denunciation, drugs, dissensions and death to become the definitive survivors. It’s the backstage pass to outdo them all.

The odyssey includes film from the Stones’ initial road trips and first controversies as they became the anti-Beatles, the group despised by authority because they connected and communicated with their own generation as no one ever had. “When we got together,” says Wyman, “something magical happened, and no one could ever copy that.”

From the outset of the film, viewers know they’re in for a white-knuckle ride. No sooner had the early Stones line-up first played live under that name in the summer of 1962 than they were bigger than the venues that tried to hold them. Wyman remembers how the crowds were soon inspiring manic behaviour, especially among screaming girls, whose uncontrollable excitement was obvious as stardom beckoned for the band already earmarked as the bad guys with press headlines, “Would you let your daughter marry a Rolling Stone?”

Riots and the chaos of early tours are graphically depicted, as is the birth of the Jagger-Richards songwriting partnership. The many dramas they encountered are also fully addressed, including the Redlands drug bust, the descent of Brian Jones into what Richards calls “bye-bye land,” and the terror and disillusionment of 1969’s Altamont Festival.

The band’s rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle is also discussed with extraordinary forthrightness, including at the time of their seminal 1972 album Exile On Main St, which topped the British charts both then and 38 years later with its deluxe reissue. Their very survival repeatedly under threat, we see how the Stones survived with a backs-to-the-wall spirit. “We may be going down,” says Keith, “but we’re not going down your way.”

The film illustrates the Stones’ evolution from being, as Mick vividly describes it, “the band everybody hated to the band everybody loves”: through the hedonistic 1970s and Keith’s turning-point bust in Canada to the spectacular touring phenomenon we know today. Richards also reveals the song that he believes defines the “essence” of his writing relationship with Jagger more than any other.

Asked in a formative interview in the film what it is that sets them apart from other groups, Jagger says with quiet understatement: “A chemical reaction seems to have happened.” Keith Richards added, “You can’t really stop the Rolling Stones, you know when that sort of avalanche is facing you, you just get out of the way”. It’s been happening ever since, and the life and times of the Rolling Stones have never been as electrifyingly portrayed as they are in Crossfire Hurricane.

Director Brett Morgen added, “Crossfire Hurricane invites the audience to experience firsthand the Stones’ nearly mythical journey from outsiders to rock and roll royalty. This is not an academic history lesson. Crossfire Hurricane allows the viewer to experience the Stones’ journey from a unique vantage point. It’s an aural and visual roller coaster ride.”

Worldwide distributors of Crossfire Hurricane are Eagle Rock Entertainment in London, with Tremelo Productions and Milkwood Films as the production companies.

As befits the first rock band to reach the 50-year milestone with their global stature now greater than ever, the film combines extensive historical footage, much of it widely unseen, with contemporary commentaries by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood and former Stones Bill Wyman and Mick Taylor. Period interviews, extensive live performance material and news archive give the production a truly kinetic aura and no-holds-barred approach. Crossfire Hurricane has taken over a year to make and produce with the full cooperation of The Rolling Stones and will be released in November.

basto con questi rumors, ormai attendo solo notizie ufficiali

Concordo con big paul non ci sono annunci ufficiali.in questo ultimo anno abbiamo sentito ogni tipo di notizia, poi nulla. Aspettiamo. Continuo a pensare A una dichiaraZione recente di bill wyman quando ha negato suo ritorno nella band, dicendo cHe non puo fare tour con loro xche non prrende l'aerEo. Ora lui abita in inghilterra quindi niente aereo per un concerto.e a NYpuo'andare in nave.

ma non ci sono nemmeno smentite questa volta da parte di loro perchè di solito gli Stones erano pronti a smentire ad ogni annuncio non ufficiale di concerti o concerto vedi quello di Parigi! quindi secondo me ci siamo anche perchè questa notizia esce poco prima della Big New che sarà il 4 settembre.....Bill può benissimo partecipare a Londra visto che sono previsti due concerti e secondo me può anche andare a NY che anche qui poco tempo fa ha partecipato alle session assieme gli Stones e non credo sia andato in nave... spero che le loro 4 performance valgano i 25 milioni di dollari ( che poi alla fine saranno anche di più ) perchè visto i "recenti" show io ne avrei dati meno della metà questione di gusti! provate immaginare 150 show a queste cifre..................

The email from Mick Jagger came in on July 24. He was putting Chuck Leavell on active duty with the Rolling Stones, as he has many times since the journeyman keyboard player first toured with the band in 1982. From his home near Macon, Ga., Mr. Leavell flew to Paris for a weeklong recording session that ended last Thursday, and contributed piano and organ parts for two new songs intended for a Stones 50th-anniversary release expected later this year.

Mr. Leavell's calendar reflects his career as a musical wingman to the likes of the Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton and George Harrison. Before parachuting into Paris, he recorded in Nashville with blues harmonica heavy James Cotton. He then spent two weeks at John Mayer's house on the Yellowstone River in Montana, where the chart-topping singer and guitarist was breaking in a studio and recording new material while recovering from throat surgery. The Stones finished just in time for Mr. Leavell to make a concert—with his own band—in Chattanooga, Tenn.

In addition to impeccable chops, musicians hired for long-haul sessions and tours must provide good company. During an interview in New York this summer, Mr. Leavell chuckled over road memories, like winging it on an out-of-tune piano in Italy during his freshman tour with the Stones; or when a stage tech attached two hair dryers to a plastic tube to warm the pianist's fingers during a frigid mid-'70s Allman Brothers show.

Seated at a Steinway in Electric Lady Studios, where he played on Mr. Mayer's last album, "Born and Raised," Mr. Leavell improvised some boogie-woogie, stride and barrelhouse riffs. He explored these styles on his recent album "Back to the Woods," a homage to Otis Spann, Leroy Carr and other piano pioneers. He says, "When you say 'blues,' everybody thinks 'guitars.' "

Mr. Leavell last joined the Stones for a rehearsal in New York in April, the first time the band had assembled in five years. He describes the songs they recorded in Paris as "up-tempo" Jagger/Richards rockers, including one on which Ronnie Wood played slide guitar. "Great hooks. Great energy. Bare bones," he says. With co-producer Don Was present, they dashed off the songs with just a few takes each. Mr. Leavell wouldn't confirm a recent report that the band will play concerts in London and Brooklyn in November.

There are risks to playing sideman to the stars. When Mr. Mayer canceled a tour because of his throat problem, Mr. Leavell lost a job that would have lasted at least six months. It was also too late to book many of his own solo gigs for the summer. In part to buffer himself, he has built side careers, including a founding stake in a conservationist website, the Mother Nature Network, and a 2,500-acre tree farm he runs with his wife. When gigs fall through, he says, "I don't mind spending time on that tractor."

31 ago 2012 - Non sembra fermarsi il flusso di indiscrezioni relative al ritorno in attività dei Rolling Stones: dopo la comunicazione, da parte dello stesso Mick Jagger, delle studio session parigine, e i boatos sulle due brevi residency che - nel corso del prossimo novembre - dovrebbero avere per teatro Londra e New York, iniziano ad affiorare altri particolari inerenti ad un possibile ritorno sul mercato discografico della leggendaria band britannica.

Nello specifico, riferisce il sito Hitsdailydouble, le misteriose sedute in sala di ripresa tenute nei pressi della capitale francese la scorsa settimana si sarebbero svolte ai Guillaume Tell Studios di Suresnes, poco lontano da Parigi (e in passato già frequentati da, tra gli altri, Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, Sting, Roger Waters e Ray Charles): per l'occasione il gruppo avrebbe registrato - come riporta il Guardian, in compagnia dello storico collaboratore Don Was, con Chuck Leavell alle tastiere e Darryl Jones al basso - due inediti, che dovrebbero trovare spazio su un cofanetto di prossima uscita. Della pubblicazione, ovviamente, nessuno tra l'entourage degli Stones ha ancora fatto parola. Se non fosse che un possibile riscontro del progetto trova conferma in dichiarazioni ufficiali di Vivendi/Universal che, a commento dell'ultimo report trimestrale indica tra gli album di prossima uscita, oltre a quelli di Robbie Williams, Taylor Swift, Diana Krall e Eros Ramazzotti, anche un disco dei Rolling Stones.

Di certo, le operazioni per il ritorno sulle scene di Mick Jagger e compagni si stanno conducendo in totale e assoluta riservatezza, tanto da lasciare all'oscuro anche lo storico promoter del gruppo, Michael Cohl, che dai tempi dello Steel Wheels tour del 1989 all'ultimo Bigger Bang tour (tra il 2005 e il 2007) ha curato gli interessi dal vivo degli Stones: "Non so nulla, né a proposito di un tour né a proposito di un nuovo album", ebbe a dire lui, qualche giorno fa, in merito, "Oggi come oggi, sono all'oscuro di tutto". "E' una questione che sta venendo trattata con rigore a dir poco militare", ha spifferato ieri un (ovviamente anonimo) insider all'edizione statunitense di Rolling Stone: "Nessuno che conosca si sarebbe azzardato a lasciarsi scappare una parola. Almeno fino a ieri...".

In ogni caso, per conoscere almeno in parte le prossime mosse degli Stones, non dovrebbe esserci ancora molto da aspetta: sulla pagina Facebook del gruppo, da due giorni a questa parte, si fa cenno ad un "grande annuncio" per il prossimo martedì, 4 settembre.

Maybe the 4 shows are very special, for the 50th anniversary, and not like the "classic" Rolling Stones shows from the last tours (just the band).

I'm thinking that the SNL TV show with Jagger performing with Arcade Fire, Jeff Beck and Foo Fighters, was maybe a test for the 50th yrs big party shows.<<
