“The geese and the ghost” esce nel 1977, primo album pubblicato dall’ etichetta Hit&Run, che verrà assorbita dalla “Charisma” poco dopo, in un periodo in cui l’ interesse per il progressive rock va diminuendo.

Questo album è un album dei Genesis mancato, infatti fra i crediti troviamo la partecipazione (attivissima) di Mike Rutherford, suo partner musicale con i Genesis ed ancora prima, di cui i loro duetti di chitarre a 12 corde in Trespass sono amati dai progressofili sinfonici, abbiamo Phil Collins alla voce in “Which way the wind blows” ed in “God if I saw her now” insieme a Viv McAuliffe (che anche se non ha una voce bella come Sandy Denny o Enya ha una timbrica folk molto appropriata a quella canzone), abbiamo anche John Hackett, fratello di Steve, ai flauti.

“The geese and the ghost” è forse l’ album più barocco fra il progressive sinfonico, abbiamo infatti ben 2 suites, ricco di intrecci di note, praticamente un lavoro di intarsio o di gioielleria, musicalmente secondo me trasuda buon gusto musicale da tutti i pori, anche se tecnicamente “frettoloso” per quanto riguarda il mixaggio. Un’ altra cosa che viene detta da molti è che ritmicamente manca di consistenza, ma secondo me, vista la natura eterea di questo lavoro la parte ritmica non è fondamentale, io personalmente di questo “corpo” in questo disco non ne sento la mancanza !!!!!

Che dire poi di Anthony? Polistrumentista valente, in questo album suona letteralmente una “cofana” di strumenti, stressato dal palcoscenico ma molto prolifico in studio, sia nelle sue produzioni che nelle collaborazioni, musicalmente parte dal progressive per toccare poi anche ambient e new age, registrando lavori poco conosciuti ma di grande qualità, personalmente io lo trovo una figura di riferimento sia dal punto di vista musicale che da quello umano, e parlare di questo suo primo album, un lavoro misconosciuto ma per chi ama il progressive sinfonico fondamentale.

Nella versione su CD è presente una bonus track, Master of Time, con la voce mixata pessimamente. Dovrebbe essere uscita una ripubblicazione di “the geese and the ghost” su doppio Cd, uno con l’ album originale ed una con materiale inedito o usato poco

I Cry of love era un gruppo rock statunitense formata nel 1991 in North Carolina. Il gruppo pubblicò il loro album di debutto nel 1993 (Brother) prima di suonare al Monsters of Rock Festival l'anno successivo.
Hanno ottenuto una numero uno nella Billboard 's Mainstream Chart Rock con "Peace Pipe" nel 1993.
Dopo questo spettacolo, il loro frontman, Kelly Holland lasciò il gruppo.
Robert Mason sostituì Holland circa tre anni più tardi.
Insieme hanno registrato un nuovo album nel 1997 (Diamonds & detriti), ma la band si divise poco dopo.

L'ex chitarrista Audley Freed suonò poi con i Black Crowes alla fine del 1990.

l'ultimo dei black crowes, comprato oggi pomeriggio e devo dire che mi piace di più di warpaint... devo ascoltarlo ancora bene ma sembra un grande album...

e vi consiglio anche Shaka Rock dei Jet...lo stò ascoltando proprio ora...bello bello...

“Before The Frost…” e “…Until The Freeze“, Nell'album con sommo piacere si trova un codice per scaricare il secondo gratuitamente.l

Entrambi gli album sono stati registrati in sole cinque serate ai Levon Helm Studios di Woodstock, “Before The Frost…” contiene 11 brani mentre “…Until The Freeze” ne contiene 9 tra le quali la cover di “So Many Times” di Stephen Stills, esiste anche in vinile.

“Before The Frost…” e “…Until The Freeze” sono stati prodotti da Paul Stacey e saranno rilasciati sotto l’etichetta dei Black Crowes, Silver Arrow Records e tramite la Megaforce Records.

tra l'altro "Until the freeze" e' prettamente country da quanto ho letto... i primi giudizi aono entusiasti, speriamo nell'effetto 'Basement Tapes' visto dove l'hanno prodotto...

Un difetto degli Archives e' che se hai gia' comprato i live usciti precedentemene (Fillmore e Massey) te li ritrovi qui come doppione, e a un costo non penso basso...

Stavo pensando anch'io la stessa cosa, proprio a riguardo dei due live...
